The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has requested a meeting with the President’s Office following allegations that President Mohamed Muizzu made threats against Adhadhu newspaper’s CEO and journalist, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, and other journalists from the publication.
Adhadhu issued a statement on Tuesday, stating that it had filed a complaint against President Muizzu for allegedly calling and threatening Fiyaz. The government has not yet commented on the matter, and several organisations have called for an immediate investigation.
The MMC met with Fiyaz Monday to clarify details regarding the incident.
A senior MMC official told Atoll Times that the council had requested a meeting with the President’s Office. However, a response has not yet been received.
The official also stated that the MMC has requested the police to investigate the matter and provide security for Fiyaz. The issue has also been brought to the attention of other agencies, including:
