President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government is exploring the possibility of closing schools for the entire month of Ramadan to ensure that teaching hours are not disrupted.
Speaking in the first episode of his podcast on Thursday, the president noted that many parents have expressed support for schools being closed during Ramadan.
"This year, schools remained closed during Ramadan as part of the transition to starting the academic year in January. I have asked the Education Minister to consider closing schools for the entire month of Ramadan from next year, ensuring no loss of teaching hours throughout the year," he said.
The president added that such a measure would allow parents and students to spend more time together in worship.
Currently, the last 10 days of Ramadan are observed as public holidays.
