Action ordered against Imam, replacement for Eid prayer absence
Neither the imam nor the replacement imam of Azeeza Moosa Mosque was present at the mosque Sunday.
The imam and the replacement imam of Azeeza Moosa Mosque in Hulhumale have been ordered to face disciplinary action for their absence during Eid prayers.
In Maldives, Eid prayers begin at 7 am. However, neither the imam nor the replacement imam of Azeeza Moosa Mosque was present at the mosque Sunday. As a result, the prayer was led by a foreign national.
Islamic Minister Dr Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that the imam designated for the Eid prayers and his replacement were both absent. The original imam of the mosque had also been appointed as the replacement imam.
The relevant unit has been instructed to suspend the imam from his position for failing to attend the congregation without informing the ministry, in accordance with established regulations.
