Govt reports record MVR 13.2 million in Zakat contributions
This year's Fitr Zakat has been distributed equally, with each eligible recipient receiving approximately MVR 4,500.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has reported receiving MVR 13.2 million in zakat contributions during the recently concluded Ramadan.
According to Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the total amount was collected by the deadline for zakat payments.
Zakat contributions in previous years were as follows:

2024 – MVR 12.5 million

2023 – MVR 12.6 million

2023 – MVR 11.6 million
The ministry stated that the largest share of zakat payments was made through the Bank of Maldives (BML). The breakdown of payments is as follows:

MVR 7.3 million through BML

MVR 1.8 million through local councils

MVR 1.2 million through Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB)
This year's Fitr Zakat has been distributed equally, with each eligible recipient receiving approximately MVR 4,500.
Previously, zakat funds were distributed within individual villages, resulting in variations in the amounts received. In villages with fewer recipients, individuals received higher amounts, ranging between MVR 8,000 and MVR 12,000.
