The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is continuing search operations for Ali Mushfiq, a 25-year-old from L. Maavah, who went missing after the Holhudhoo Boat caught fire on Wednesday night.

The cargo vessel caught fire at approximately 9:07 p.m. while travelling from Th. Hirilandhoo to Malé. According to a statement issued by the MNDF, the vessel sank at around 2:07 a.m. the following day.

There were 18 individuals on board at the time of the incident, including 11 Maldivians and seven foreign nationals. Mushfiq remains the only person unaccounted for.

The MNDF Coast Guard has been conducting a sea and air search operation since the incident. The search includes:

  • Surface search across 53.04 square nautical miles

  • Diving operations covering 64,240 acres

  • Aerial surveys covering 1,545 square miles

The search efforts are ongoing, with divers actively involved in locating the missing individual.
