Police summon 2 PNF members over president's family remarks
Sajidha has filed legal cases in both the Civil Court and the Family Court seeking legal action against the individuals concerned.
The People’s National Front (PNF) has announced that two of its senior members have been summoned by the Maldives Police Service for questioning in connection with comments allegedly made about President Mohamed Muizzu’s son.
Former Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed and party member Mohamed Waheed are scheduled to appear before the police on Thursday. Mohamed Waheed has been summoned for 2 p.m., while Hussain Waheed is expected to appear at 4 p.m.
Speaking to Atoll Times, PNF Secretary General and former minister Maleeh Jamaal said that the summons are related to accusations of defamation involving the president’s son.
Maleeh described the police action as a restriction on constitutional freedoms, including freedom of expression, assembly, and political participation.
“This is an infringement on rights guaranteed under the Constitution,” Maleeh said.
He further alleged that the action was politically motivated and intended to disrupt PNF’s activities.
“There will be no withdrawal from the political work being carried out by the PNF on behalf of the people,” he added.
Similar cases are ongoing against senior figures from the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), including party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and activist Mariyam Zubair.
In addition to the police investigation, President Muizzu’s wife, Sajidha Mohamed, has filed legal cases in both the Civil Court and the Family Court seeking legal action against the individuals concerned.
