Police conduct searches in woman's fall probe

Initial findings indicate that the woman and Raud were alone in the building when the fall occurred.

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that search operations are underway at the premises linked to eight individuals who were present with the woman who fell from the ninth floor of a building in Henveiru, Male’, onto the roof of a nearby warehouse.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen stated during a press conference on Thursday that the individuals under investigation include the woman, Raud Ahmed Zilal, and seven others. Their passports have been seized, and associated properties are being searched as part of the ongoing investigation.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau said that Raud Ahmed Zilal has been questioned and that his residence was searched under a court order. His phone and passport were confiscated during the operation. According to the Commissioner, police investigations showed that Raud and seven others went to two different houses in Male’ on the night of the incident.

Surveillance footage from surrounding areas has been reviewed to verify the sequence of events. Police have recorded statements from all eight individuals.

The Commissioner stated, “An investigation will have to be conducted to determine whether others may be linked to the incident.”

All individuals involved have been banned from leaving the country pending the completion of the investigation. Commissioner Shujau added that the police may seek international assistance if further resources are required to complete the inquiry.

As part of developments connected to the case, Izdian Mohamed Maumoon, Strategic Communications Undersecretary at the President’s Office, was dismissed from his position earlier today.
