The Maldives Police Service has sought an arrest warrant for Raud Ahmed Zilal, who is under investigation in connection with the fall of a 21-year-old woman from a building in Henveiru, Male’, last Friday.

The woman was discovered on the roof of an adjacent building in the early hours of Friday morning. She was placed on a ventilator the following day after her condition deteriorated. Hospital sources have confirmed that she was removed from the ventilator two days later and remains under medical care.

Raud Ahmed Zilal was identified as the individual who entered the building with the woman prior to the incident. At a press briefing, police officials stated that Raud has not cooperated with the investigation, prompting authorities to seek a court-issued arrest warrant.

According to Chief Inspector Samih Mohamed, Head of the Death and Homicide Department, both Raud and the woman tested positive for cannabis. He also said that evidence gathered so far indicates they may have consumed other substances.

Raud’s passport has been seized. However, he has not been taken into custody, despite testing positive for drugs.

Chief Inspector Samih added that based on the current evidence, police believe the woman fell by herself and was not pushed.

The police held their first press conference on the case amid growing public concern. A demonstration was held in Male’ yesterday, with participants calling for a thorough and impartial investigation.

The arrest warrant request for Raud comes one week after the incident occurred. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
