MDRO bacteria detected in NICU at IGMH
These bacteria do not respond to common antibiotics, increasing the risk of infection.
Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) have been detected in some critically ill children receiving treatment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the hospital confirmed.
In a statement on Thursday, IGMH noted that MDRO bacteria can occasionally be found in environments where patients with severe conditions are being treated. These bacteria do not respond to common antibiotics, increasing the risk of infection.
The hospital stated that it has implemented strict measures to prevent the further spread of the bacteria. It further confirmed that no children or healthcare workers have fallen ill due to the presence of MDRO.
IGMH also stated that safety protocols are being prioritised for all individuals in the affected area. Additional information will be released as necessary.
