A police officer who fell critically ill during a training session at the Dhaalu Vaani Police Station has passed away Wednesday while receiving treatment.
Police Constable Hussain Gaais, 34, was participating in the 40th initial police training course when he became unwell on Sunday. He was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé, where he died while undergoing treatment, authorities confirmed.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the training or the specific cause of Gaais’s illness have not been publicly disclosed. The Maldives Police Service stated that investigations are ongoing, and further information will be shared in due course.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the police media group extended condolences: "Please extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and the policemen who were completing training with the deceased."
They added, “We pray to Allah for patience and steadfastness to the family of the deceased at this sad time.”
