Postmortem ordered in custody death

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Navshad, 41, of M. Reyalivageaage. Police stated that he was found unresponsive in a cell early Wednesday evening.
According to police, he was taken to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where his death was confirmed.
As the death occurred in custody, police stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Police have informed the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and the National Integrity Commission. An investigation into the incident is under way.
