The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has issued a public notice regarding four counterfeit batches of amoxicillin capsules manufactured by Maxheal Pharmaceutical India Limited.

According to the MFDA, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has been notified that the affected batches of the antibiotic are currently in circulation in Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

The MFDA has confirmed that none of the specified batches were imported into the Maldives through any officially registered channels for pharmaceutical import.

However, the agency has advised the public to remain cautious, noting that India is a common destination for Maldivians seeking medical treatment, and in some instances, individuals may bring medicines from India for personal use.

The MFDA has not reported any incidents involving the counterfeit batches in the Maldives as of now.
