Fathimath Inaya, the Maldives' first female Foreign Secretary, has been removed from her post.
Although dismissed from the position of Foreign Secretary, Inaya will continue to serve as Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The reason for her removal has not been officially disclosed.
Inaya was appointed Foreign Secretary in December 2023, with a rank equivalent to that of a State Minister. Prior to her appointment, she held the position of Deputy Minister at the Ministry.
The Foreign Secretary is the second-highest ranking official within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, subordinate only to the Minister. Under the Foreign Service Act, the tenure for the Foreign Secretary role is three years.
