The government has revised the Gulhifalhu Land Use Plan for the third time, with the amended version published in the Government Gazette yesterday. The latest changes aim to accelerate the land registration process for individuals who received land through the government’s landlord scheme, according to Housing Minister Dr. Abdullah Muthalib.

Minister Muthalib announced the update on social media platform X last night, explaining that the plan was altered to ensure that all land allocations come from the already dredged area of Gulhifalhu. He emphasized that the change aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's policy to issue land registries as soon as possible.

The original land use plan was introduced in August 2023 by the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. However, the current government later revised it, citing the absence of essential residential components in the initial blueprint. A second version was announced on October 24, 2024, incorporating newly dredged areas and forming the basis for a subsequent land allocation lottery.

“Some individuals who were allocated plots under the previous government’s plan were also given land under the new plan,” Muthalib noted. He highlighted that overlapping allocations have created challenges in finalizing registrations, especially since some plots were assigned in undredged areas.

The newly gazetted revision now consolidates residential, commercial, institutional, and other land uses within the dredged portion of Gulhifalhu, streamlining the allocation and registration process.

The Housing Ministry has consulted with the association representing land recipients and discussed practical steps for land handover. Muthalib reiterated his April statement in Parliament, confirming that a new lottery would be held within this month.

“God willing, the draw will be held this month, and the registration process will begin immediately. Once the survey work is complete, eligible plots will be handed over to their owners,” he said.
