Maldives signs agreement with CMEC for Gulhifalhu development
The minister mentioned that the two sides have agreed to identify available land to commence construction of roads and water and sewerage infrastructure.
Government of Maldives on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the construction of roads and municipal buildings on reclaimed land in K. Gulhifalhu.
The signing ceremony took place this morning at the President’s Office.
The agreement was signed by Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib on behalf of the Maldivian government, while CMEC was represented by Regional General Manager Shen Hau Jin.
The scope of the CMEC-funded project includes:

Water and sewerage systems.

Installation of a drainage system.

Construction of roads meeting modern standards.

Establishment of a gas storage and distribution centre.

Implementation of a Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GPON) duct system.
Speaking at the event, Muththalib highlighted the preparatory work undertaken by the ministry and CMEC.
"Project scoping, preparation of technical specifications, and concept-level design work have been completed. Following these efforts, we evaluated and discussed the proposal submitted by CMEC, finalising the contract to arrange financing with the contractor," he said.
