The Maldives has established its first official clinic for Maldivian pilgrims in Mecca, Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced on Friday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dr Shaheem confirmed that the Saudi Arabian authorities have granted formal permission to the Maldivian Hajj Mission to operate the clinic.

The clinic will be set up at the Hajj Corporation’s hotel in Mecca in collaboration with Abir Hospital. According to Dr Shaheem, the facility will include a medical treatment unit and hospital beds, forming part of a broader health system organised by the Hajj Corporation.

“This is the first time the clinic has been officially established in collaboration with a Saudi hospital,” Dr Shaheem said.

The first group of Maldivian pilgrims is scheduled to depart on Monday. According to the Islamic calendar, Hajj is expected to take place on the 5th of next month.
