Parliament to go on recess after Monday's budget vote
The committee also approved a supplementary budget of MVR 5.8 billion for this year.

Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced on Wednesday that the parliament will go on recess after a vote on the proposed 2023 budget on Monday.
In addition to this year's supplementary budget, a budget of MVR 42.8 billion was approved for next year and the debate on the committee's report began on Monday.
The committee also approved a supplementary budget of MVR 5.8 billion for this year.
Speaking before opening the floor for debate on the budget committee report, Nasheed said that the debate on the budget report would continue in Wednesday and Monday's sittings.
According to parliamentary rules of procedure, parliament sessions will be divided into three terms in a year. It is:

First term – February 1 to April

Second term – May 16 to June

Third term – August 16 to November
In the last two sittings, most of the MPs did not participate in the debate on the budget report. On both days, the parliament had to end the sitting. The speaker also expressed concern over the low number of members present on the floor when the session began Wednesday.
