A 17-year-old Maldivian boy died in a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck in front of the Maafannu Bus Station in Malé on Sunday night.
The accident occurred when a speeding motorcycle collided with a jogging Maldivian man and later a pickup truck.
According to police, three people were injured in the incident, including the deceased. The other two individuals, a 16-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man, are being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Their condition has been described as critical.
The 17-year-old and the 16-year-old were both on the motorcycle at the time of the incident.
A journalist at the scene reported that a witness claimed the motorcycle lost control and struck a man who was crossing the road. The man was then hit by a pickup truck travelling along the same route.
Video footage circulating on social media shows two individuals with head injuries at the scene. One of the individuals sustained visible trauma to the skull and significant bleeding.
Police are investigating the incident.
