Govt begins handover of 4,000 flats
The Housing Ministry confirmed that Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation is responsible for coordinating the handover process.
The Ministry of Housing has begun the handover process for 4,000 housing units constructed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme initiated by the previous government.
The decision to proceed with the handover follows a government directive issued on 29 May to implement the original beneficiary list formulated during the previous administration. This list had initially been under review by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib previously announced that the handover process would begin in July. In a statement released Saturday, the Housing Ministry confirmed that Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation is responsible for coordinating the handover process and signing of agreements with the beneficiaries.
According to the ministry:
-
Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation will manage all necessary transactions related to the signing of flat agreements.
-
Flat recipients will be notified through the 'Gedhoruveriya Portal'.
-
Individuals not contacted via the portal are advised not to respond to any calls or messages claiming to represent the ministry or the corporation.
-
The signing of agreements will begin with towers that are ready to be handed over.
The 4,000 flats were originally part of a housing development in the Hulhumale area, constructed by two Indian firms under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
Following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s assumption of office, the new administration announced plans to re-evaluate the eligibility list. A committee was formed and a revised list released in February, which named 1,820 eligible recipients. However, the government has now opted to revert to the list announced by the previous government, with some revisions.
The ministry has stated that individuals or their spouses who have received land or flats through other government schemes, such as the landowner scheme, will be excluded from the final list. Minister Muththalib had earlier estimated that around 700 names may be removed from the list due to such overlaps.
