Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has retired from the judiciary, concluding his tenure as the Chief Justice of the Maldives. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has temporarily assigned the administrative responsibilities of the Supreme Court to Justice Abdullah Hameed until a new Chief Justice is appointed.
Following his retirement, a retirement allowance package was granted to Muthasim. The JSC submitted the matter to the Finance Committee of Parliament. However, the committee referred it to the Pay Commission, which proceeded with the decision based on advice from the Ministry of Finance.
According to information received, the Pay Commission approved the following entitlements for Muthasim:
-
A one-time retirement payment of MVR 159,375
-
A monthly living allowance of MVR 20,000
-
A monthly basic pension of MVR 11,953
-
A total monthly payment of MVR 31,953
In a separate motion submitted to Parliament, the JSC also proposed:
-
A monthly transport allowance of MVR 70,000 to cover a driver’s salary and fuel expenses
-
To include Muthasim’s total public service period—not just judicial service—in calculating his retirement package, which would amount to MVR 493,600
The proposed allowances and benefits have been processed under current regulations applicable to retired judges.
