The government of Sri Lanka has decided to extend the validity of medical and spouse visas issued to Maldivians for a period of one year. This decision applies to Maldivians who are married to Sri Lankan nationals or are residing in the country for medical purposes.
According to the Maldives Foreign Ministry, this measure is intended to ease visa-related challenges, as Sri Lanka remains a country where a significant number of Maldivians live and frequently travel for healthcare services.
The ministry, quoting the Sri Lankan government, advised visa applicants to ensure that all required documents, especially those related to security clearance, are submitted properly along with their application. It was also stated that any issue in the applicant’s security clearance record may lead to the cancellation of the visa.
The announcement comes following the arrival of Sri Lankan President Anura Dissanayake in the Maldives on the occasion of Maldives Independence Day. During this visit, the two countries also agreed to allow 90-day on-arrival visas for Sri Lankans visiting the Maldives.
