Nasheed sues Shareef for 10 million in defamation lawsuit
Law firm run by Nasheed's brother Nazim Sattar, said in a statement on Monday that Nasheed has filed a defamation suit in the civil court over the allegations.
Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on Monday filed a lawsuit at the Civil Court seeking MVR 10 million as compensation for defamation over allegations made by Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef saying that Nasheed had tried to detonate a bomb.
During former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's tenure, MDP carried out opposition activities, and Shareef had alleged that Nasheed had led a bomb attack and tried to kill at least 50 people and tried to put the blame on Maumoon. Shareef said on Twitter that:

MDP’s parliamentary group passed a resolution to stop the violence and decided to ask for foreign help; Shareef was then the deputy leader of the parliamentary group

Litigants, a law firm run by Nasheed's brother Nazim Sattar, said in a statement on Monday that that the former president has filed a defamation suit in the civil court over the allegations.

"Mohamed Nasheed denies all these claims," the statement said.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Nasheed have been at loggerheads over several political issues. Shareef is one of the most active members among President Solih's ranks. Meanwhile, a heated exchange of words between Nasheed and Shareef had taken place during the parliament sessions.
