The Health Ministry has announced a ban on the import, sale and use of Cofsy cough syrup in the Maldives.
The decision was taken after a quality issue was identified in the product currently available in the country. The syrup, commonly given to children for coughs and colds, has been prohibited effective today.
The ministry instructed pharmacies to dispose of any remaining stock of the medicine in accordance with regulations.
No reports of health problems linked to the syrup have been received so far, the ministry confirmed.
In its alert, the Health Ministry also reminded pharmacies and suppliers to follow proper standards in the transportation and storage of medicines to ensure their safety.
