The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has ruled that judges and magistrates may greet President Mohamed Muizzu during his visits to islands.
The matter was tabled for discussion at the JSC’s meeting on Wednesday following questions raised about whether such participation was appropriate.
In recent months, President Muizzu has visited several atolls, meeting with the heads of institutions on the islands, including courts. The agenda of the JSC meeting stated: “To discuss the participation of the judges and staff of the court in the meeting with the heads of institutions and to welcome the President during his visit to the atolls.”
Following deliberations, the commission decided that judges and court staff may welcome the President and attend institutional meetings during his visits. However, it added that judges must observe the established rules of conduct when doing so.
