Velana International Airport (VIA) has reopened its west side parking area after being closed for nearly two months.
The closure was introduced in July to coincide with the opening ceremony of the new international terminal. At the time, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the suspension of parking was temporary.
Although the terminal has since opened, the parking area remained closed until now. Employees had raised concerns over overcrowding on buses and ferries during peak hours and difficulties in relying on taxis for travel.
Following weeks of complaints from staff and members of the public, the west side parking area has been reopened. According to sources, the reopening has been arranged on a temporary basis under a separate agreement.
