Govt staff allowed to wear face veil under new regulation

The change follows last month’s decision to permit women to wear the face veil in courts and judicial institutions.

The Civil Service Commission has amended its regulations to allow government employees to wear the face veil while at work.

Under previous governments, the face veil was prohibited, and teachers were dismissed for refusing to uncover their faces. The revised rule, published in the Gazette on Sunday, changes this provision.

According to the amendment, employees providing services that require identification must display a card or tag showing their name and position. The earlier requirement stated that civil servants had to dress in a way that clearly identified them during working hours, leaving no provision for wearing the face veil.

The change follows last month’s decision to permit women to wear the face veil in courts and judicial institutions.
