Mega integrated tourism project launched in Hulhumale

The Urban Isle project is to be developed independent of the Hulhumale development project.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Wednesday announced that it will undertake a major integrated tourism project in Hulhumale Phase II.

HDC announced through its social media accounts that land has been earmarked for the Urban Isle project, which is dedicated to developing various levels of tourism, close to the Sheraton Full Moon Resort in the northernmost part of Hulhumale Phase II. It covers an area of 1,03,421 square metres.

The Urban Isle project is to be developed independent of the Hulhumale development project: 

  • Three medium-sized, 10-storey hotels — an area of 19,103 square metres

  • Three high-end, 10-storey hotels – an area of 50,681 square metres

  • Four 8-10-storey city hotels — an area of 2,850 square metres

  • 21 six-storey guesthouses – 9,224 square metres of land

  • 11 three-storey luxury villas – an area of 5,083 square metres

  • 10 plots for construction of serviced apartments in 8-12 storey towers – 7,006 square metres

  • Nine plots of land - 9,474 square metres for business development

There are plans to set up shopping malls, cinemas and other recreational and playgrounds on the land allotted for business development, according to drawings on the website dedicated to the project. The plan also includes construction of a high rise tower there.

According to the drawings, there is also a plan to separate development from phase II via a canal.

HDC said those interested in investing in the project can invest under three models: 

  • Long-term lease model

  • Short-term fixed lease model

  • JV model developed jointly by various stakeholders

HDC said that the Urban Isle project is being developed in Hulhumale as a destination for people from the Maldives and abroad to come and enjoy their holidays. It will be a comfortable and accessible area for tourists from all walks of life, it said.
