Maldives, India reaffirm cooperation at UN General Assembly
Following the meeting, Dr Jaishankar said India’s assistance to the Maldives’ development would continue.

Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening relations with India during a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The two ministers met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Following the meeting, Dr Jaishankar said India’s assistance to the Maldives’ development would continue.
In a post on X, Jaishankar shared a photo of the meeting. Reposting the image, Minister Khaleel described it as a valuable opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation.
India recently deferred the repayment of USD 50 million, part of the USD 200 million budgetary support extended to the Maldives under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
Several development projects are currently underway in the Maldives with Indian support, including the Greater Malé Connectivity Project and multiple housing initiatives.
