Envoy says bilateral ties benefit both Maldives and India
The High Commissioner said relations between the Maldives and India have strengthened in recent years.

India’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, G. Balasubramanian, said on Monday that the relationship between the Maldives and India benefits both countries.
He made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held at the Social Centre to mark India’s 77th Republic Day.
The High Commissioner said relations between the Maldives and India have strengthened in recent years.
He said India is now the world’s fourth largest economy and that neighbouring countries are also benefiting from this growth.
He referred to development projects being implemented in the Maldives with Indian assistance.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, also spoke on the importance of relations between the Maldives and India.
The minister said India is an important partner in the Maldives’ economy and that Indian workers are employed in several sectors.
“They show respect for the Maldives,” Khaleel said.
He added that India should continue to provide assistance to the Maldives during major events.
Former Presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Mohamed Nasheed attended the ceremony as special guests.
