Police have announced that vehicles parked in parking zones designated for four-wheelers in Malé will be towed.
The decision follows complaints that many motorcycles are being parked in areas reserved for cars and pickups, preventing authorised users from accessing the spaces.
Police said the four-wheeler parking zones are open for public use but must only be used by the types of vehicles for which they are designated.
The police have advised motorcycle owners to avoid parking in these areas, warning that vehicles found in violation will be removed.
Members of the public have repeatedly complained that motorcycles occupy parking spaces meant for cars, making it difficult for vehicle owners to find available parking in the city.
Parking availability in Malé remains limited. Authorities recently opened previously sold parking spaces for public use in an attempt to ease congestion.
