Police detain 3 Thai women, Maldivian man for prostitution

Police said the arrests were made on suspicion of sexual offences and prostitution for money.

Four people have been arrested inside a salon in Malé on suspicion of involvement in prostitution, police said on Wednesday.

Police confirmed that three Thai women and one Maldivian man were arrested during a special operation conducted two days earlier at Peace Salon and Spa, located on the third floor of H. Arihiya.

Those arrested are:

  • Mohamed Samam Rasheed, 28, of GA. Villingili

  • Junpen Kumbonpitak

  • Patcharida Bannabodi

  • Superwadi Jomtar

Police said the arrests were made on suspicion of sexual offences and prostitution for money.

The Criminal Court has since ordered their remand as follows:

  • The Maldivian man: 5 days

  • Two of the Thai women: 3 days each

  • The third Thai woman: 30 days

Police have not provided further details on the case.
