MDP sets 30 January for council election primary
Incumbent Malé Mayor Adam Azim and former Central Henveiru Member of Parliament Ali Azim have submitted their candidacies for the party’s mayoral primary.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold its primary election for the upcoming council elections on 30 January.
The date was finalised by the MDP Elections Committee at a meeting held on Monday. While the party has yet to make an official announcement, several senior party officials confirmed the decision to Daur.
The party opened applications in late August for members interested in contesting the council elections. The primary is expected to be contested, particularly for the Malé mayoral ticket.
Incumbent Malé Mayor Adam Azim and former Central Henveiru Member of Parliament Ali Azim have submitted their candidacies for the party’s mayoral primary.
Meanwhile, the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has scheduled its primary election for 27 December. The deadline for submitting nominations for the PNC primary expired on Tuesday.
The Elections Commission has set 4 April as the date for the council elections.
