Flooding affects homes in Addu, Fuvahmulah as heavy rain continues

Heavy rain across the Maldives has caused further flooding in Addu and Fuvahmulah, with some families requiring temporary accommodation after their homes were affected.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said the southern atolls have been among the areas most affected by the ongoing rain and released an update on Sunday detailing the latest reports of damage.

According to the NDMA, flooding in Feydhoo, Addu, had affected nine homes as of Sunday, with water entering the properties and causing damage.

In Fuvahmulah, flooding caused by the rain has resulted in reports of sewage pipes becoming blocked at some homes.

The NDMA said one home in Feydhoo was flooded to the extent that it became uninhabitable. Temporary accommodation and meals have been arranged for the residents of the house.

Three other households in Feydhoo have faced difficulties preparing food because of the flooding. The NDMA said meals have been arranged for the affected families for three days.

In Fuvahmulah, Fenaka Corporation, the city council and other institutions are working together to provide assistance to families affected by the weather, according to the authority.

Addu has experienced flooding over the past three days, with water entering a number of homes. Feydhoo has recorded the highest number of affected homes in the city.
