A woman and a child were rescued after a fishing boat from Fuvahmulah suffered an engine failure on Friday afternoon, police said.
The boat, which was fishing at the time of the incident, was carrying seven women and one child when its engine stopped, leaving it adrift at sea.
Police said the woman and the child were transported back to Fuvahmulah on a police speedboat. The remaining passengers stayed on board while arrangements were made to tow the disabled vessel.
According to police, the boat is being taken back to the island by another vessel. All those on board were reported to be in good condition.
Authorities said weather conditions remain unfavourable across the Maldives, with rough seas reported in several areas. The public has been advised to exercise caution when travelling by sea.
