First IVF birth recorded at national fertility centre
IGMH said both the mother and the child are in stable condition.
The first baby conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) was born on Wednesday at the National Fertility Centre at Dharumavantha Hospital, according to a statement issued by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
IGMH said both the mother and the child are in stable condition.
The National Fertility Centre was established to provide fertility treatment services within the Maldives, reducing the need for patients to seek such treatment abroad.
In its statement, IGMH acknowledged the work of medical and technical staff involved in the procedure, including gynaecologists, embryologists, anaesthesiologists, nurses and other personnel of the fertility centre.
