High Court elects Shafeeu as JSC representative

The seat allocated to a High Court judge on the commission became vacant following the retirement of Mohamed Niyaz.

The High Court of the Maldives on Thursday elected Hassan Shafeeu as its representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The seat allocated to a High Court judge on the commission became vacant following the retirement of Mohamed Niyaz. The High Court announced Justice Shafeeu’s election in a post on X on Thursday.

Under the Constitution, the Judicial Service Commission comprises 10 members. The current composition of the commission is as follows:

    Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis

  • 2-

    Hussain Shaheed, representative of the Supreme Court of the Maldives bench

  • 3-

    Hassan Shafeeu, representative of High Court judges

  • 4-

    Farhad Rasheed, representative of lower court judges

  • 5-

    Hosni Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Manadhoo Constituency and chair of the commission

  • 6-

    Mohamed Mujthaba Fahmy, President of the Civil Service Commission

  • 7-

    Mohamed Yazmeed, member appointed by the President

  • 8-

    Ahmed Usham, Attorney General

  • 9-

    Ali Abdul Latheef, member elected from among lawyers

  • 10-

    Idhrees Fawzy, public member endorsed by parliament

Before his retirement, Justice Niyaz resigned from the post of vice-president of the Judicial Service Commission in August last year. Following that vacancy, the commission appointed Mohamed Yazmeed as its deputy.
