MVR 301.6m disbursed under first degree scheme in 2025
The government began covering tuition fees for eligible students under the first degree scheme in 2019.

The Ministry of Higher Education said on Monday that the government allocated MVR 151 million last year for students enrolled under the first degree scheme.
The ministry released statistics on social media outlining student enrolment and disbursements under the first degree scheme, loan scheme and scholarship programmes administered by the ministry.
The government began covering tuition fees for eligible students under the first degree scheme in 2019.
According to the ministry, 2,798 students registered for the first degree scheme last year. A total of 3,286 students graduated under the scheme during the same period.
The ministry also reported that MVR 301.6 million was disbursed under the first degree scheme between 2024 and 2025.
At present, 8,680 students are enrolled in the scheme. Of these, 3,194 are male students and 5,486 are female students.
