President Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday that there was no need to allow political satire and ridicule during the upcoming local council elections.

He made the remarks at an afternoon tea event organised by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) as part of its campaign activities.

The meeting was attended by senior leaders of the PNC and members of parliament representing the party.

Addressing those present, President Muizzu said the government was engaging with the public and listening to their concerns. He said the administration was working to implement policies in line with public expectations.

He urged voters not to encourage division between the government and the public.

The President said the government was implementing its agenda according to the timetable it had set and called for the election of council members who would support these efforts.

He said individuals who obstruct development work and raise objections would not contribute to social stability.

“Now peace has been brought to the society of the Maldives. There will be no political prisoners here. No one will be imprisoned for political reasons,” he said.
