Hashish oil worth MVR 29 million seized in sea smuggling attempt
Customs said the seizure was made on Thursday during an inspection of a shipment of goods transported to the Maldives by sea.
Maldives Customs Service said on Saturday that hashish oil valued at more than MVR 29 million was seized during an attempt to smuggle the substance into the Maldives by sea.
Customs said the seizure was made on Thursday during an inspection of a shipment of goods transported to the Maldives by sea. During the inspection, officers identified items suspected to be drugs.
Initial testing indicated that the substances were hashish oil, customs said.
According to customs, the total weight of the seized items was 36.43 kilograms. The estimated street value of the drugs is MVR 29 million.
Customs said the seized drugs have been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
