The Maldives Customs Service has seized more than 2.2 kilograms of narcotics that were being smuggled into the Maldives by sea.
The drugs were intercepted on Monday at the Malé Commercial Harbour, Customs said in a statement on Thursday.
According to Customs, the seized narcotics weighed 2,231 grams and have an estimated street value of MVR 4.4 million.
The seizure is the latest in a series of interceptions by Customs targeting the import of illegal drugs through both sea and air routes.
Earlier this month, Customs seized 3.6 kilograms of narcotics concealed in postal shipments. The agency also intercepted 5.5 kilograms of drugs that were being smuggled into Addu City by air.
Customs has not released further details about the latest seizure or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case.
