Customs seizes narcotics worth MVR 3.9 million at airport

Maldives Customs Service has seized narcotics valued at over MVR 3.9 million that were smuggled into the country by air.

In a statement issued on Sunday night, Customs said the seizure was carried out on the 4th of this month at Velana International Airport.

Authorities confirmed that the substances weighed over 2 kilograms and were identified as synthetic cathinone.

The estimated street value of the drugs exceeds MVR 3.9 million.

Customs said efforts are ongoing to prevent the entry of illegal drugs through air and sea routes.

The seizure follows another operation on the 20th of this month in which narcotics valued at MVR 9.6 million were intercepted.
