Maldives Customs has seized 18 kilograms of drugs with a street value of approximately MVR 26 million during a special operation conducted on Monday.
The drugs were reportedly concealed in tree pots. In a post on X, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan confirmed the seizure and commended customs personnel for their role in the operation.
“I would like to thank the customs personnel for their valuable hard work in maintaining the border in accordance with the special instructions of the President,” the minister said.
He added that measures are being taken to eliminate avenues for drug trafficking and to ensure legal action is taken against those involved.
This marks the largest single drug seizure in the Maldives so far this year. The second-largest was reported in February, when authorities confiscated 14 kilograms of drugs.
In 2024, the highest drug seizure recorded was in November, when 400 kilograms of narcotics were intercepted. The street value of that haul was estimated at MVR 1 billion.
