Japanese firm awarded MVR 24.6 million drainage project in Malé
The company has been given 16 months to complete the work.
A Japanese company has been awarded a contract for a drainage project in Malé aimed at addressing flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Ministry of Construction said on Sunday that the agreement was signed on Tuesday with assistance from the Japanese government.
According to the ministry, the contract was awarded to Tech International Inc under the Project for Disaster Resilience and Enhancement in Malé Island. The project is valued at 247 million Japanese yen, equivalent to MVR 24.6 million.
State Minister Hassan Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while Tech International signed on behalf of the company.
The ministry said the project includes the installation and automation of 16 pump stations in Malé, the establishment of a central monitoring station to oversee pump operations, and the procurement of a jetting vehicle for drainage system maintenance.
The company has been given 16 months to complete the work.
The ministry also said that a joint venture between Oriental Consultants Global Company Limited and Yachia Engineering Company has been appointed as the project consultant.
