The government on Wednesday signed an agreement with the Road Development Corporation (RDC) to begin tarring 50 additional roads in GDh. Thinadhoo.

Road tarring works in Thinadhoo began around 10 years ago as part of efforts to upgrade the island’s road network. Successive governments have carried out the project in phases over the years.

The agreement signed on Wednesday marks the third phase of the project. Under this phase, 50 roads in Thinadhoo will be tarred.

According to the Ministry of Construction, the agreement was signed by Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib on behalf of the ministry, while RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem signed on behalf of the company.

The project includes the paving of 19.3 kilometres of roads, covering 50 streets. It also includes the installation of drainage systems, road markings and signboards, as well as the construction of gates.

The ministry said the project is expected to take about three years to complete. The total cost of the project exceeds MVR 34 million.
