Road accidents increase during second week of Ramadan

Road accidents have increased during the second week of Ramadan, with the highest number of incidents reported in Hulhumalé Phase 1.
According to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service, 107 traffic accidents were recorded during the first week of Ramadan. By the end of the second week, the total number of accidents had risen to 207.
Police data show that the largest number of accidents occurred in Hulhumalé Phase 1, where 35 incidents were recorded.
Accidents were also reported on Majeedhee Magu, the Sinamalé Bridge and on the highway connecting Malé and Hulhumalé.
Police said accident trends during Ramadan this year are similar to those recorded during the same period last year. During the second week of Ramadan last year, many accidents were also reported in Hulhumalé Phase 1.
Authorities said two fatal accidents have occurred during Ramadan so far. One of the incidents resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy.
Police continue to monitor traffic incidents during the Ramadan period.
