Nearly 295,000 voters eligible for April elections and referendum

According to the commission, 1,592 candidates are contesting the local council elections.

The Elections Commission of Maldives has released the final list of eligible voters for the upcoming local council elections and the referendum on holding presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day.

The local council elections and the Women’s Development Committee elections are scheduled to take place on 4 April. A referendum on merging the presidential and parliamentary elections will also be held on the same day.

According to the final voter list released by the Elections Commission on Tuesday, a total of 294,876 people are eligible to vote.

The voter list includes:

  • 144,506 women

  • 150,370 men

The commission has published the list of eligible voters on its official website. Voters can also check their status through SMS.

To check by SMS, voters must send “4VR” followed by a space and their identity card number to 141.

According to the commission, 1,592 candidates are contesting the local council elections.

In addition, 1,368 candidates are contesting the elections for the Women’s Development Committees.
