Former President Mohamed Nasheed on Saturday said he is satisfied with the conduct of the ongoing elections.

Nasheed made the remarks after casting his vote at Iskandhar School.

Voting is taking place for Local Council Elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections, and a referendum on whether Presidential and Parliamentary elections should be held at the same time.

Nasheed said the voting process was proceeding in an orderly manner and noted that political parties had conducted their campaigns without incident.

“I am pleased. Everyone is casting their votes in an orderly manner. All parties conducted their campaigns peacefully. It brings me joy to see the process taking place,” he said.

He said maintaining governance based on the rule of law depends on participation in the electoral process.

“I would like to state that voting is a responsibility and a duty for every citizen. We can sustain a state based on the rule of law and achieve prosperity by strengthening this system. Therefore, it is essential for everyone to cast their vote,” he added.
