Nizar secures majority in early Addu results

Results announced so far show Nizar leading in multiple polling stations.

Incumbent Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar is set to secure re-election following Saturday’s vote, based on provisional results.

Although the official polling period ended, ballot boxes in Malé and Addu City remained open for some time due to queues. Final results from all polling stations have not yet been consolidated.

Results announced so far show Nizar leading in multiple polling stations.

At Hithadhoo Moolekede (S1.1), Nizar received 355 votes, compared to 182 votes for Mushrif Ali of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and 14 votes for independent candidate Mohamed Ahusam.

At Hithadhoo Maamendhoo (S6.1/303), Nizar secured 345 votes, while Mushrif Ali received 125 votes and Ahusam 10 votes.

At Hithadhoo Maamendhoo (S6.2/304), Nizar obtained 349 votes, compared to 154 votes for Mushrif Ali and 31 votes for Ahusam.

At Feydhoo Maadhela (S10.2/314), Nizar received 225 votes, while Mushrif Ali secured 171 votes and Ahusam 13 votes.

Among Addu voters in Malé (ST-5), Nizar received 108 votes, Mushrif Ali 87 votes, and Ahusam 10 votes.

At ST-8, Nizar secured 112 votes, compared to 34 votes for Mushrif Ali and 10 votes for Ahusam.

At ST-9, Nizar received 183 votes, while Mushrif Ali secured 69 votes and Ahusam 8 votes.

According to the Elections Commission of Maldives, Nizar has secured 66.36 per cent of the total votes counted so far.

Overall figures released by the commission show Nizar with 2,484 votes, followed by Mushrif Ali with 1,134 votes and Mohamed Ahusam with 125 votes.

The results remain provisional pending completion of the count.
