Fuvahmulah mayor Ismail Rafeeq secures second term

Incumbent Mayor of Fuvahmulah City, Ismail Rafeeq, has been re-elected following Saturday’s Local Council Elections.

According to provisional results, Rafeeq, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), secured the majority of votes counted so far.

Figures released indicate that Rafeeq received 1,738 votes, accounting for 68 per cent of the total.

Ali Masih of the People’s National Congress (PNC) received 813 votes, representing 31.9 per cent.

The results remain provisional pending completion of the count.
