Expat found unconscious in Malé dies in hospital

Police said preliminary findings indicate no evidence of foul play or involvement of another person in the death.

A foreign national found unconscious outside a guesthouse in Malé has died while receiving treatment, police have confirmed.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the man was discovered lying unconscious and bleeding from the mouth in front of a house identified as ‘Saaj’ on Kalhuhuraa Magu.

He was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he died later that night.

Police identified the individual as an Indian national.

In a statement, police said preliminary findings indicate no evidence of foul play or involvement of another person in the death. They added that no suspicious circumstances have been identified so far, and that the case remains under investigation.

Witnesses at the scene reported that two individuals were stopped after attempting to leave the area shortly after the man was brought to the location. The individuals were handed over to police. Authorities have not confirmed whether they have been arrested.
